Katherine, although everyone calls her Kate, welcomes us on the terrace of her New York apartment, proudly showing off the breathtaking view all around her. “Living in a loft in Manhattan, with a 360° view of the city’s skyscrapers has been my dream since I was a little girl!”, she confesses…
This clear view of her future led this botany student to become an established businesswoman who has worked hard, determined to make her dream come true…
The young American entrepreneur tells us her story as she prepares a frugal dinner in her new outdoor kitchen. A stainless steel kitchen from the Atelier line by Abimis.
“The kitchen just got here”, she explains. “I designed it myself to complete the furniture on the terrace. Abimis technicians delivered it, installed it and tested it just a few days ago… I couldn’t wait to inaugurate it”.
Kate, a young entrepreneur specialising in garden architecture and outdoor furniture, opened her studio in Manhattan. “Here I was lucky to work with major clients straight away, designing and furnishing their gardens and terraces”, she continues.
“But when a friend of mine told me he was selling his loft in Manhattan to move to Coney Island, I didn’t think twice. And here I am!”.
The young entrepreneur uses her loft as a studio-home. Kate loves to be surrounded by friends whenever she can.
“That’s why I asked Abimis to make this kitchen for my terrace. I love having lots of guests and I like to prepare a quick dinner or drinks on the terrace while I chat with them.”

The outdoor kitchen is made entirely of stainless steel with an orbitally polished finish by hand and it has a geometrical structure with minimal silhouettes. Six modules without visible handles, topped by an extra thick top with a cooking area divided up into 3 areas: cooking, washing and a large expanse of space to prepare food.
The entire open-air dining area is sheltered by a roof overhang that creates a veritable open-air room protected from the rain and wind which, this high up, often blows in strong gusts.
The remainder of the terrace is a genuine “roof garden”. All kinds of plants, from creepers to fruit trees, ornamental plants and vegetable garden herbs.
“I constantly design gardens and terraces for my clients” Kate concludes. “This time I wanted to focus on myself”.
And judging from the “green” terrace she has created, one immediately appreciates her great talent and the passion she nurtures for her job. The green scene is so lush it seems almost impossible that it exists right in the heart of Manhattan.
But the starring role of the terrace is without a shadow of a doubt played by her new outdoor kitchen.
“I chose stainless steel not just for its quality and performance, but also because it is a reflective material which, consequently, constantly changes colour.
“By day it reflects the green of the plants and the blue of the sky. By night, it mirrors the lights from the skyscrapers all around. A true spectacle!”
