Seaside home kitchens: a choice that focuses on relaxation

Understated, cool and practical. Here’s how to furnish seaside home kitchens. Amid colours, salt air resistant materials and bespoke solutions.

“A man on holiday needs little more than a bed, a bathroom, a roof and the view of the sun reflected by the sea” were the words of Le Corbusier.
What wise words! However, please forgive us great master if we add another element to this list, one that we deem essential in a seaside haven: the kitchen.

Indeed, kitchens in seaside homes are important. And not just for gourmet fans. Just as in the home we live in during the rest of the year, the kitchen is the heart of the home in our seaside getaway too. It is the place for sociability par excellence, where we meet up with family and friends for long chats. It is a somewhere which must therefore be welcoming and user-friendly. To guarantee a holiday in total relaxation.

So let’s see what needs to be considered when designing or choosing a kitchen for a seaside home.

1. Seaside home kitchens colours

White. It is one of the most popular colours for seaside home kitchens. This great classic provides unique freshness and brightness, and is suitable for both classic-style kitchens and more modern ones too.
White is joined by another evergreen hue in seaside homes: blue. This relaxing colour additionally offers endless different shades: from sea-blue to the deeper shades of a night sky.

Simply beautiful when used on their own, or in two-tone combinations, blue and white are perhaps too obvious a choice for a house by the sea, yet they ooze undisputed charm.
If you prefer brighter hues, you could opt for vitamin-packed colours such as lemon yellow. It’s up to you to decide whether to dare with a lively monochrome kitchen or pair yellow with a more discreet grey. Perfectly on-trend with Pantone 2021.

2. Materials for seaside home kitchens

When buying a seaside home, you need to pay particular attention to the choice of materials. The sea air is often very humid, filled with salt air and at times wind blows in fine grains of sand that even settles indoors. All these problems can damage the kitchen, even seriously
One of the most suitable materials for seaside home kitchens is stainless steel, a metal alloy that is extremely resistant to corrosion. In particular, in the case of outdoor kitchens installed by the sea, customers should definitely prefer a kitchen made from AISI 316 stainless steel, a special alloy which guarantees greater resistance to salt air owing to the presence of molybdenum.

And if you’re just not sure about a stainless steel finish for your seaside home, have no fear. You can choose a lacquered stainless steel kitchen.

3. Simple yet striking silhouettes and easy to clean surfaces

It is a well-known fact that when you’re on holiday, doing housework isn’t a top priority. And while cooking can be enjoyable, cleaning definitely isn’t. That’s why practicality is everything in a seaside home kitchen.
Our advice? Choose a kitchen with no joints, better still one with pull-out shelves and internal compartments with rounded corners.

These characteristics reduce the build-up of dirt and the spread of mould and bacteria, simplifying cleaning tasks which are a chore on holiday. They also guarantee maximum hygiene and safety in the kitchen.
For these reasons too, the most suitable material continues to be stainless steel. This metal alloy is extremely easy to clean, thanks to its smooth, biologically neutral surface.
To make the setting more user-friendly, it is also preferable to opt for a kitchen with an understated style. No frills are allowed in a seaside home. After all, as Le Corbusier said, it’s “the view of the sun reflected by the sea…” that counts.

4. Bespoke solutions to optimise every single centimetre to perfection

In seaside homes, which are often second homes, the square footage is usually more limited. However, that doesn’t mean having to compromise on a real, functional and well-equipped kitchen. What matters most is not the size of the kitchen, but how it is organised. That’s why every single centimetre should be optimised by designing a bespoke kitchen. So that you can always have everything at hand, without wasting space.
If your seaside home is open plan, an attractive alternative could be a kitchen with an island. The very best solution for fans of sociability. Unlike classic linear kitchens, kitchens with an island in fact provide the opportunity to chat with your guests as you cook, allowing several people to stand at the hob simultaneously. Nothing better when we’re on holiday.

5. Outdoor kitchens

If your seaside home has a garden or a terrace, there is one more possibility: an outdoor kitchen. And we don’t just mean a simple barbecue with friends. These days, outdoor settings can be fitted with professional kitchens, that are ultra-accessorised and designed to accommodate the needs of even the most demanding chef.

If you opt for an outdoor kitchen for your seaside home, beware however that you need to pay even more attention to the materials you select. Indeed, the kitchen must be resistant to all weather, to UV rays, to high temperatures and to sudden temperature changes. In this case, too, stainless steel once again proves to be the safest bet.

Abimis kitchens

Abimis kitchens are an excellent choice for a seaside home. Made of AISI 304 stainless steel, they are extremely resistant to corrosion, to sudden temperature changes, to scratches and to knocks. When built in AISI 316 stainless steel, they guarantee maximum resistance to salt air and humidity too.

Moreover, Abimis kitchens are all completely bespoke, offering the designer and the customer the chance to have a kitchen entirely tailored to their needs.
Abimis stainless steel kitchen can be matt or glossy lacquered in any RAL colour. Paint is applied to the stainless steel using the same techniques used in the automotive industry. This makes for colours that are extremely hard-wearing and resistant to both scratches and direct sun rays.
