Nestled in the Treviso hills, amidst a landscape defined by orderly rows of vineyards that change colour with the seasons, stands this contemporary villa built from the ground up to accommodate a large family deeply connected to their local heritage.
The owners are in fact at the helm of a historic winery that produces and exports Prosecco globally. While they represent a solid entrepreneurial force rooted in Venetian enological culture, they are first and foremost a family of five with a vibrant domestic life filled with guests, social lunches and long evenings spent together.
The house is arranged across two levels. The ground floor is entirely dedicated to the living area, conceived as a vast, fluid space where the lounge, dining area and kitchen flow into one another. On the upper floor, the bedrooms are tucked beneath a vaulted ceiling, creating a more intimate and private atmosphere.
The living area occupies an expansive, open-plan L-shaped space. The long wing houses the lounge, designed for relaxation and conversation, while the dining area sits in the corner, visible from both sides. The short wing opens into the open-plan kitchen, which occupies nearly a third of the entire living space.
The central role of the kitchen is no accident. Having grown up in a family of winemakers, the owner fondly recalls a childhood spent in a grand Venetian courtyard farmhouse – a home of generous proportions with a vast courtyard and a large kitchen dominated by a grand stone fireplace. It was there that the family gathered every day, not just for meals, but for evening chats to share stories and time together.
When imagining his new home, his desire was to recreate that same domestic spirit. Consequently, he commissioned a large, lived-in kitchen designed to welcome family and friends, where hours could be spent between the hob, the table and the conversation.
From the earliest design stages, the brief was crystal clear: a professional kitchen in stainless steel from the Atelier line by Abimis. Having seen the kitchen “in action” at the home of a local friend and fellow culinary enthusiast, the owner was struck by its construction quality and performance levels.
He specified the model to the designers, asking them to build an environment around this kitchen that harmoniously blended aesthetics, efficiency and warmth.
The design revolves around two primary elements.
Along one wall sits a large composition of tall units finished in dark-stained oak wood. These house the oven, refrigerator and multiple storage compartments, ensuring the space remains uncluttered and functional.
The veritable star of the setting, however, is the large stainless steel island kitchen by Abimis. It is a striking element in both scale and presence: a monobloc conceived as both a functional operating centre and a social meeting point.
One side of the island is equipped with a hob and sink, creating a truly professional workstation. On the opposite side, the worktop extends into an overhanging snack counter, ideal for quick breakfasts, aperitifs or chatting while someone cooks.
Beneath the surface, handle-less doors and drawers lend the island a sleek, compact appearance, making it feel almost like a sculptural presence at the centre of the room.
The orbitally polished by hand finish of the stainless steel softens the material’s technical edge, making it feel warmer and more textured. This choice liaises naturally with the designer furniture in the living area, integrating the kitchen into the home’s contemporary language.
The space is further enhanced by a floor-to-ceiling glass wall that runs alongside the kitchen, opening onto the lush garden.
Natural light pours in throughout the day, reflecting off the stainless steel surfaces which change colour as the hours pass, creating a constantly evolving atmosphere.
The material palette was specifically chosen to highlight the island’s presence. The kitchen flooring features large, dark metal-effect tiles with soft nuances that echo the “lamination blue” of iron.
The intense chromatic backdrop of the equipped wall and the depth of the dark oak further accentuate the contrast with the luminosity of the orbitally polished stainless steel.
The result is a kitchen that is far more than a workspace; it is the true focal point of the home: a place where design, conviviality, and family memories converge, transforming every daily ritual into a shared moment.
