There’s a place halfway up a hill, overlooking the mediaeval village of Malcesine, where time seems to stand still. It’s a small, peaceful haven, suspended between the blue of Lake Garda and the green of the surrounding olive trees, where the summer sun, filtering through old shutters, reveals the beauty of centuries-old frescoes.
This 19th Century noble building was purchased by an English family – a father, mother, and their three children – who chose it as their getaway.
The renovation work, necessary not only due to the property’s condition but also to transform a 19th Century villa into a welcoming home suited for a contemporary lifestyle, was carried out with full respect for its original architecture.
The home now features a large living area on the ground floor, a sleeping area upstairs comprising four bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, and a charming attic apartment for guests on the top floor.
Even the expansive garden was restored to its original design, with the sole addition of a panoramic infinity pool that gazes out over the lake and the mountains beyond.
The owners, passionate about Italian gastronomic culture and accomplished chefs, entrusted Abimis with creating their large kitchen. Given a prime location, it has truly become the heart of daily life.
This bright space is completely adorned with frescoes, boasts an elegant Venetian terrazzo floor, and features two large French doors opening onto the lake. For these reasons, choosing the furnishings wasn’t easy. The kitchen needed to be not only well-equipped, practical, and functional but also had to blend seamlessly into such an art- and history-rich environment.
The decision to install an Ego kitchen by Abimis in stainless steel was therefore pivotal. Its minimalist, sculptural silhouettes respectfully engage with the surroundings yet possess a strong personality. Meanwhile, the soft surface finish orbitally polished by hand delicately reflects the wall paintings, integrating perfectly with them.
Because every Abimis kitchen is never just an assembly of elements. It is a custom-made project, tailored not only to the needs of those who live in it but also to the environment in which it is placed.
The Ego kitchen integrates into this historic context with both lightness and precision. There is no forced contrast, no excessive clash – just a harmonious balance between ancient decorations and contemporary design. The kitchen elements, in their lines, echo the antique sideboards, buffets, and old pantry cabinets of kitchens from a bygone era.
The stainless steel they are crafted from transforms here into a living material, sculpted by the light streaming through the windows.
The kitchen was divided into four distinct blocks, each designed to fulfil different functions while respecting the history and beauty of its surroundings.
In the middle of the room, an island with a snack top opens towards the living room, becoming the vibrant heart of sociability: family breakfasts, aperitifs with friends, and casual chats during meal preparation. Beneath the top, a series of drawers with the rounded profiles typical of the Ego line open with elegant satin brass handles.
Three different modules are placed against the walls.
The first is a kind of contemporary sideboard, composed of low storage units topped by a tall stainless steel back panel with two shelves that display ceramics, spices, and small everyday objects. The visible glass rack adds a bistro-like touch to the space.
The second element is very similar to the first but is more “operational,” as it houses the sink and the induction hob. Here, everything is within easy reach, from spice jars to utensils hanging from the equipped shelf. The stainless steel wall panel incorporates an invisible magnetic system that works as a knife rack: a functional and elegant solution that is perfectly in keeping with the Abimis philosophy.
Lastly, the third block, taller in stature, discreetly conceals two refrigerators and an oven. It is the most technological part of the kitchen, yet it remains consistent in style and materials, resembling an antique cabinet with contemporary lines.
In this home nestled in nature, the Ego kitchen is the hub of domestic life: a laboratory, a place for storytelling and sharing.
And it is also a statement. Because in a world where luxury is often shown off, here you breathe a more intimate and refined idea of quality: one made of perfect proportions, carefully chosen materials, and quiet yet fundamental and well-designed details.
